St. Luke's University Health Network Worker's Compensation, Compliance & Safety Specialist in Allentown, Pennsylvania

The Workers Compensation, Compliance and Safety Specialist serves as a valuable resource of information for the Network displaying a professional, helpful, and positive attitude when dealing with all internal and external customers. The Specialist is responsible for performing duties in alignment with OSHA standards such as inspections, investigations, site evaluations, development of programs and procedures, health and safety training, and written safety reports.

  • JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serves as the Safety Committee representative for the SLPG and System Services entities.

  • Partners with HR and Operations to design and implement safety processes and procedures for these two assigned entities.

  • Maintains required entity-specific safety policies and processes for assigned entities.

  • Educate employees about workplace safety and provide safety training to practices.

  • Respond to OSHA complaints and provide guidance to entities during the investigation.

  • Support in preparation of OSHA response letters.

  • Report OSHA reportable injuries.

  • Support the preparation of Occupational & Illness reports, and incident rates.

  • Review of OSHA logs to ensure accuracy and compliance.

  • Report data information to the Department of Labor for injury & illness statistics.

  • Support of emergency management programs.

  • Works collectively with Safety and Security leaders to provide data and information.

  • Conducts site visits to inspect, test, and evaluate workplace environments, programs, equipment, and practices to ensure safety compliance.

PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:

Individual must be able to meet established specific physical requirements of the job; sitting for up to eight (8) hour/day, four (4) hour at a time; standing for up to eight (8) hours/day, 4 hours at a time, and walking for up to eight (8) hours/day, 4 hours at a time. Frequent handling and firm griping in moving equipment, rarely fingering, and twisting/turning. Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and walking of objects weighing in excess of fifty pounds with assistance if needed. Occasional stooping/bending, crouching, and reaching above shoulder level. Hearing as it relates to the ability for addressing questions in educational settings and responding to directives under emergent conditions. Visual acuity as it relates to the ability to read printed information and color perception to interpret warning signs and hazard color coding. Olfaction capability also necessary to detect suspicious or unusual odors.

EDUCATION:

High School diploma or equivalent required. Associate or bachelor’s Degree in related field preferred.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of two - three years in a safety position or experience with a public agency such as the fire service or county emergency management. Private industry safety experience acceptable. Must complete International Association for Healthcare (IAHSS) Safety Certificate, Certified Healthcare Safety Professional (CHSP) and OSHA 30 certification within one year.

  • Share Network best practices between locations and align standards between practices.

  • Review and design of workplace safety programs and standard operating procedures that control safety risks to employees.

  • Support safety-related incidents to determine cause and prevention.

  • Documents all incident submissions and provides data and statistic reports to all entities.

  • Documents and maintains a daily report of activities.

  • Responsible for being part of the fire and disaster response teams.

  • Other related duties as assigned.
