The Economist Software Engineer III in Gurugram, India

We’re changing, embedding alternate data sources such as GPS and satellite data into our forecasting, products will increasingly be tailored to individual clients, driven by some of the most innovative data in the market. A highly collaborative team of Product Managers, Customer Experience and Product Engineering is being created with a focus on creating business and customer value driven by real time analytics alongside our traditional products.

We are transitioning to operating with agile product teams and adopting cloud native engineering practices and we need your help. As a back-end developer you will work with an amazing team of developers, designers and product managers to design and build applications to service the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) clients.

Accountabilities

How you will contribute:

  • Take technical responsibility for all stages in the software development life-cycle

  • Apply team-based standards for programming tools and techniques and advise on their application

  • Identify complexity in projects/services/processes and proactively and works with the team to scope and prioritise resolutions

  • Design, write and deliver software to deliver on strategic direction

  • Works within, and encourages a Devops culture and Continuous Delivery process

  • Works within agile cross-functional product teams

Experience, skills and professional attributes

The ideal skills for this role include:

  • Main language speciality in .Net

  • Expert in Agile development methodologies

  • Experience of commercial web software development experience (using HTML, CSS, Javascript)

  • Complete understanding of data and content flows through CMS and CDN systems

  • Experience in developing on public cloud infrastructure, specifically AWS

  • Hands-on technical experience

  • Capable of technical deep-dives into code and architecture

  • Proficiency in algorithms, data structures, complexity analysis and software design

  • Expertise in problem solving and analysing global scale distributed systems

  • Effective communication skills
