Position Title: Multi-level Mechanical Engineer Calcine Disposition Project

Work Location: Town

Shift Schedule: Monday-Thursday 4x10s

Salary Grade: 17 Salary Range: Min \$92,785 Mid \$115,985, Max \$144,985

Salary Grade: 18 Salary Range: Min \$104,970 Mid \$131,060 Max \$164,125

Salary Grade: 19 Salary Range: Min \$118,305 Mid \$147,885 Max \$185,000

Position Purpose:

Assist the Calcine Project team in developing and selecting new technologies for retrieving and treating radioactive waste. While this is primarily a mechanical design and analysis role, cross-disciplinary abilities are beneficial,

especially in Systems Engineering, 3D modeling, HVAC, Civil/Structural knowledge, and Digital Engineering tools. Communication and project management skills are also highly valued.

Work includes leading a small engineering team (up to approximately 5 engineers) to accomplish project scope within a defined schedule and budget, overseeing conceptual design work and reporting progress and needs to the project chief engineer.

Work independently with minimal guidance but must also work closely with other team members. Find creative solutions to difficult problems and have the initiative to identify and resolve issues. Remain open to feedback and suggestions from others.

Integrate safety into all aspects of the engineering design process. Maintain a safety-conscious work environment. Maintain a working knowledge of the Federal and state Orders and Regulations, National Consensus Codes and Standards, and quality assurance,

environmental, safety and security requirements

Lead and perform design efforts that include but are not limited to:

  • 3D modeling of systems and facilities.
  • Integrating Digital Engineering tools within the project.
  • Identifying design requirements and selection of concepts and designs.
  • Design of HVAC mechanical assemblies within new and existing facilities.
  • Design for hazardous environments, especially radiation hazards.

Minimum Qualification Requirements (Education/Experience):

Bachelors degree in mechanical engineering or similar engineering degree with;

Salary Grade 17: 6 years relevant experience

Salary Grade 18: 8 years relevant experience

Salary Grade 19: 12 years relevant experience

Special Requirements/Training:

Candidates with the following experience are preferred:

Nuclear experience

HVAC systems

REVIT 3D modeling

Digital Engineering tools

ASME B31.3 Process Piping

Position Responsibilities:

Oversee project design efforts:

  • Work with Project Chief Engineer to define task scope and project schedule
  • Identify task specific requirements and deliverables
  • Schedule and lead design development activities
  • Communicate task status to Project Chief Engineer and Project Manager
  • Ensure design decisions are documented
  • Mentor team members

Engineering support for the Calcine Project acquisition of large CAP asset:

  • Develop and evaluate design requirements and concepts
  • Identify applicable codes, standards, regulations, and procedures
  • Consult with various disciplines to provide technical and functional requirements
  • Evaluate hazards and safety requirements
  • Determine other ESH&QA (e.g. ALARA, Life Safety, Fire Protection, & IH) requirements
  • Understand and research existing systems and vendor literature
  • Identify whether and what type of design activities are needed
  • Evaluate new technologies and equipment
  • Identify research, studies and testing required to proceed with the design
  • Prepare design options and concepts

Complete and document detailed design

  • Incorporate safety into all aspects of the design
  • Develop and/or evaluate design alternatives
  • Coordinate designs with other disciplines
  • Confirm compliance to applicable codes and standards
  • Perform and document design analyses
  • Develop and use 3D modeling using Autodesk products
  • Develop and issue design documents such as drawings, construction specifications, EDFs, reports, SDDs, TBLs, test criteria, etc.

Maintain training consistent with Individual Training Plan

Support and promote a safety conscious work environment.

Complete short and long term work tasks when assigned by management.
