Consumers Energy Sr Platform Engineer (Network Infrastructure) in JACKSON, Michigan

Location:

The successful candidate will be expected to work in a hybrid status of reporting to Parnall in Jackson, MI every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday with home office flexibility on Wednesday and Friday.

We are looking for: Senior Platform Engineer (Network Infrastructure)

The Senior Platform Engineer Provides virtual and physical infrastructure evaluation, design, implementation, and 3rd Level technical support services to staff and customers on software systems by testing software and hardware products and maintaining associated documentation. They provide application Life Cycle management including software packaging and deployment services to meet business needs. The Senior Platform Engineer troubleshoots very difficult infrastructure problems which can involve other groups such as server, network, and Information Security. They utilize automation to remove wasted effort and improver user experience. The Senior Platform Engineer responds and follows-up on internal and external customer support problems.

  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications to perform End Point management services

  • Ability to analyze, organize, and prioritize work while meeting multiple deadlines

  • Technical skills to design, plan and implement highly Technical infrastructure and applications (virtual and physical) solutions

  • Expert troubleshooting skills: candidate should possess advanced troubleshooting abilities to quickly diagnose and resolve operational issues within the data network.

  • Comprehensive understanding of network protocols including SNMP, ARP, BGP, OSPF, ICMP, SSL/TLS, DHCP, DNS, SMTP, SSH, FTP, HTTP/S, TCP/IP, NAT.

  • Various scripting, programming languages and operating systems (tcl, python, Assembly, C, JavaScript, Node.js, Linux OS, etc.)

  • Industry and F5 Networks-targeted technologies i.e. Application Delivery Control, Application Access Control, SSL intercept/inspection, and Web Application Firewall Security

  • Experience with TCPDump, Wireshark and analyzing network traffic

  • Demonstrate a solid understanding of the OSI and TCP/IP network models

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, or related field with four (4) or more years of applicable experience

  • [OR] High School Diploma with twelve (12) or more years of applicable experience

  • Network engineering experience required

  • Proven experience in designing, implementing, and maintaining complex network infrastructure

Preferred skills:

  • CompTIA Security+ Certification

  • Information Technology Infrastructure Library

  • Relevant certifications such as CCNP (Cisco Certified Network Professional), CCIE (Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert), JNCIE (Juniper Networks Certified Internet Expert), or equivalent.

In this role, you will:

  • Evaluates, Designs, Plans and configures infrastructure, applications, monitoring, and management tools to best meet the company needs, and information security guidelines.

  • Monitors vulnerabilities, plans and implements all remediation steps to meet Information security requirements.

  • Completes Life Cycle management for all desktop operating systems and core desktop applications. Provides software packaging and distribution for both desktops and servers. This includes scripting to improve performance or reduce manual effort.

  • Provides highly technical (3rd Level) hardware and software break-fix support to end users for tickets escalated from the Service Desk, desktop, Information Security, or other support groups. Provides timely responses to client and management requests. Gives status updates on such requests on a regular basis.

  • Assists end-users and other IT groups by phone and email with third-level technical support. Contributes knowledge and updated information to maintain the Help Desk and desktop SOPs and Training manuals for Tier I/II support.

  • Utilizes scripting to automate to remove manual steps and improve user satisfaction.

  • Works with server, network and IS groups to resolve technical problems on the desktop or project based requests.

  • Implements group policies to secure systems and improve desktop support.

  • Design and implement network solutions based on Cisco Nexus 9K switches to meet the organization’s requirements and standards.

  • Diagnosing and resolving network issues related to Cisco Nexus, Juniper, Infoblox, Azure, F5, Palo Alto and other network related platforms.

  • Ability to design and deliver Infoblox DDI solutions to meet the organization’s requirements for DNS, DHCP, and IP Address Management, including scalability, high availability and disaster recovery considerations.

  • Implement and maintain security procedures to safeguard the network infrastructure against unauthorized access, malware and other security threats.

  • Create and maintain detailed network documentation, including network diagrams, configuration files and change logs.

  • Generate regular reports on network performance, capacity and security.

  • Significant experience with supporting and maintaining F5 Big-IP load balancers to include set-up, maintenance, upgrades and replacement of the latest generation of F5s.

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including system administrators, software developers and cybersecurity specialists to support business initiatives and projects.

  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders to provide updates, recommendations, and resolutions for network-related issues.

  • Other non-essential duties as assigned or may be necessary.
