Job Description

BAE Systems is seeking an ES geographic wide Sr. Principal Systems Engineer III Section Leader (SL) of Section Leaders, servant leader and individual technical contributor in the field of Active Laser Solutions and Passive Electro-Optical (EO) Infrared (IR) System Sensing to join a growing and dynamic group of engineers developing leading edge EO/IR capabilities. You will be the Senior Functional Director of the existing EO/IR Optical Systems Engineering Capability Group (CG) that is responsible for engineering staff and SE resources for the execution of design, development, integration, implementation, test, and verification/validation of passive electro optical and active laser optical attack solutions across each of BAE Systems ES business areas (CEMA, ECS, FASTLabs, PS and C4ISR). As a SL of SL s, you will also serve as an individual senior principal level technical contributor, responsible for and supporting of bringing technologies to bear on next-generation military/commercial applications. You will be expected to both perform and deliver technical value in the role of active laser and/or passive EO/IR Systems Engineering, Systems Analyst and System Architect for programs ranging from Technical Marketing, Strategic Initiatives, IRAD/CRAD research and development prototypes, EMD units, LRIP units to full rate production systems. As an Agile Servant Senior Section Leader, you will also work with other engineering staff and other Section Leaders to grow and capture our knowledge through engineering changes, lessons learned, insights, retrospectives, and product/process improvements in your area(s) of expertise. As the EO/IR CG point-of-contact you will also be responsible to accelerate EO/IR capability advancement, foster leverage, reuse, and continuous improvement of best practices sharing, while growing the pipeline of talent, tools, and technology. Required Education, Experience, & Skills

  • US Citizen with active Secret clearance and eligible for Top Secret/SCI/SAP/SAR clearance.

  • Develop information that extends knowledge in the field of active and/or passive sensing in the EO/IR domains. Apply this knowledge to the development of advanced concepts, techniques, products, processes, or standards in active and/or passive EO/IR sensing.

  • Have demonstrated experience successfully serving other experienced engineers as a Systems Engineering Functional Director in EOIRTechnical Marketing, Strategic Initiatives, IRAD/CRAD research and development prototypes, EMD units, LRIP units to full rate production systems at BAE Systems and Systems Engineering Life Cycle Processes (best practices) while also understanding and executing the duties, roles and responsibilities of performing as a Section Leader of Section Leaders at BAE Systems.

  • Act as a technical senior principal section leader of section leaders and functional managing director in a matrixed organization to support people, program & products, technical team-mates, and business area management as well as to customers in making key technology trade-off decisions while embracing BAE Systems cultural principles and behavioral values.

  • Work with other experienced section leaders and technical specialists in the active and passive EOIR domains, supporting team, business area (BA) and company growth.

  • Serve as the EO/IR CG focal point leader for the continued EO/IR Capability Group Strategic Initiate growth, while gaining collaborative consensus across all business areas on what EO/IR technology, tools and talent are to be prioritized, while supporting the EO/IR Roadmap growth to advance the EO/IR business at BAE Systems.

  • BS in EE, Physics, Optics, Systems or equivalent with 11 years of experience working with active and/or passive electro-optical infrared systems; or MS in EE, Physics, Optics, Systems, or equivalent with 9 years of experience; or PhD in ME, EE, Physics, Optics, or equivalent with 7 years of experience.

  • Cleared Secret Candidates only (clearable to TS).

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Working knowledge of: LADAR/LiDAR, Laser, DTV, EO, I 2 , CCTV, LLCCTV, RF and/or other active sensing or illuminated theory, techniques, components, and systems across the electro optical spectrum from UV to LWIR; laser characteristics/solutions, atmospheric transmission and modeling; conduct of complex trade studies involving sensors, optical designs, link budgets, make/buy decisions, SWaP-C, and environmental constraints; including performance testing of EO components, sub-systems, and complete systems.

  • Working knowledge of: visible, SWIR, single and two-color cooled MWIR and/or cooled/uncooled LWIR and/or other passive sensing theory, techniques, components, and systems across the electro optical spectrum from Day-TV to LWIR; atmospheric transmission and modeling & simulation; conduct of complex trade studies involving sensors, optical designs, link & error budgets, make/buy decisions, SWaP-C, and environmental constraints; including performance modeling, simulation, analysis, demonstration and testing of EO components, sub-systems, and complete systems-of-systems.

  • Working knowledge of requirements analysis and trade-off study for active and passive sensing EO/IR designs and effectively/efficiently converting stakeholder definition to architectural design.

  • Working knowledge of Systems Engineering MBSE modeling & simulation techniques using tools such as MATLAB, DOORS, Simulink, MagicDraw, Ansys, Code V/ZeMax, FRED, STOP, NVTherm-IP/NV-IPM and methods such as AS-9145 (DFMEA & PFMEA), Agile, Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Failure Modes & Effects Analysis (FMEA).

  • Working knowledge of Systems Engineering and life cycle processes stages and process milestone execution decision gating reviews.

  • Experience working & contributing independently with very limited supervision and interacting effectively with other technical team-mates to achieve product and process technical goals.

  • Architect, develop Concept of Operations (ConOps) and requirements, design, model, analyze, and testelectro-optical (EO) infrared (IR) systems, subsystems, and components (including COTS items) used in a variety of active and passive sensing solutions to military/commercial applications.

  • Digital Engineering, Model Based Systems Engineering (SysML), Model Based Agile Engineering (Value Driven Digital Threads) and Agile Mindset principle, practices & processes, and tools & techniques.

  • INCOSE CSEP Systems Engineering process, language, best practices, and nomenclature preferred.

  • Experience supporting inter and multi-disciplinary collaborative teams consisting of mechanical, electrical, optical, software, test & evaluation, and systems engineers.

Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $147300 - $250400

However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
