The Business Development Manager will be responsible for driving sales growth and the development of new business in the MEA region. The candidate shall provide business development leadership and direction, including identification of new clients and opportunities, maintaining oversight of all pursuits, and translating the Company strategy into a sales approach. The candidate will be required to understand business negotiations and recognize and act upon opportunities to promote the Company’s expertise and successful past performance. May travel extensively to cultivate new and ongoing business development endeavors. Typical responsibilities will include managing important client accounts and proposal/project activities of varying magnitude.

The Business Development Manager will be responsible for working in conjunction with the sector managers, operations (project) managers, and regional leadership to contribute to strategic direction and growth. The candidate will be expected to contribute information and ideas to the strategic planning process and demonstrate an understanding of business goals and growth initiatives that can help achieve strategic aspirations and transformation.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Establish and maintain new client contacts and develop sales strategy. Strengthen current business ties; coordinate meetings between clients/potential clients and technical or other key individuals.

  • Play a key role in implementing corporate, business unit, and sector growth and marketing strategies for the region and successfully target and lead campaigns for expansion into new geographies and new market lines.

  • Responsibility will extend from the identification of an opportunity with a new client to the point that the project is successfully running under a dedicated project manager.

  • Participate in the financial management of the business and work closely with other senior managers to ensure that financial targets are achieved.

  • Manage pipeline and forecasting through proper implementation of company tools and leading pursuit strategies.

  • Keep abreast of overall business trends, particularly the current business climate. Follow up in a timely manner on all possible leads.

  • Carry out the necessary market research on emerging markets, potential clients, and competitors, and develop and execute sales presentations to potential clients whenever required.

  • Support the development of various marketing material to raise awareness of the company’s full range of services to both new and existing clients in the region.

  • Identify potential clients within area of specialty and develop sales strategy. Understand and respond to potential clients’ needs and objectives.

  • Provide leadership and guidance to the proposal team from inception to completion. Oversees the development of the pricing structure, as well as other contract terms and conditions. Obtains senior management approvals.

  • Manage the go/no-go decision-making process, along with the appropriate managers and participate in the bid development process from start to finish.

  • Participate in the set-up and management of joint-ventures and consortia for purposes of bidding major projects.

  • Identify delivery and proposal requirements, sources of potential risks, and analysis of their potential impacts and mitigation.

What you’ll bring:

  • 4-year degree in Engineering, Architecture or Business (or equivalent).

  • 7+ years of diversified experience, primarily within the business development realm of a large, multinational company, is required.

  • A thorough understanding of proposal pricing, contract terminology, negotiations with potential clients, and various business models is required.

  • Advanced written and oral communication skills, including excellent presentation skills.

  • An exceptional ability to represent the Company favorably, to develop new clients, and to negotiate with key members of other firms.

  • A thorough understanding of the planning, architecture, engineering and development consultancy sector.

  • Knowledge and familiarity with Middle East clients and typical contract terms, proposal requirements, and approach to business preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to increase productivity and continuously improve methods, approaches, and departmental contribution.

  • Fluent English communication skills (oral and written).

  • Arabic communication skills (oral and written) – preferred.

  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and Powerpoint.

  • Supervisory skills - ability to supervise other business development professionals and proposal production.

  • Attention to detail, team player, able to work occasional long hours / weekends as required to meet deadlines, proven ability to work in a high-pressure environment.

  • Proven ability to work well with a diverse team.
